In the early 90’s people from Midleton who went to Cork Baptist Church every Sunday decided to start a church in Midleton.
The first Sunday meetings were held in a public building off the Mill Road. In 1994 the church, now called, Midleton Evangelical Church (MEC), moved to the current location in the Town Council Park.
From 1992-2000 the church was lead by Sean Mullan. From 2000-2003 the church continued without a pastor. By 2003 the church employed Andy Compton to serve as its current pastor. During all of this time the church continued to grow with people coming, staying and serving as well as others moving on.
By 2007, about 15 people were attending from the Youghal area so a Sunday morning meeting was started there. About 40 people attend the Youghal services now and this group has become Youghal Baptist Church.
MEC is continuing to grow and is currently looking for suitable premises to provide for the current activities of the church and future growth in numbers.
